FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 10, 2011
Every year, foodies all around the Hawaiian islands debate which restaurant is worthy of the prestigious Honolulu Star Advertiser’s ‘Ilima Award for the Best Fine Dining Restaurant. The 2011 results are out! This year, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is proud to claim the People’s Choice title for Best Fine Dining Restaurant on behalf of its award-winning gourmet seaside restaurant, Hoku’s, managed by Dante Camara and featuring the creative cuisine of Executive Chef Wayne Hirabayashi and Hoku’s Chef Thomas Ho.
“We are especially proud of our experienced food and beverage team who have set such high standards of excellence for Hoku’s,” says The Kahala General Manager Thomas Pauly. “Hoku is the Hawaiian word for ‘star’ and clearly the restaurant’s service and cuisine has outshined all others in the island this year.”
The ‘Ilima Awards are announced in October on Columbus Day and are chosen by a combination of public ballot, the restaurant critics’ choices, and Diamond Head Theatre patron choices. The event is held as a signature fundraiser for Diamond Head Theatre in partnership with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Each year restaurants vie for top honors and bragging rights for the entire next year.
Hoku’s Manager Dante Camara’s focus is on attentive service on the floor, while Chef Ho’s meticulous cooking in the kitchens has really paid off. The improvement is noticeable and Hoku’s is enjoying a resurgence in both popularity and dining preference for special events and parties.
“It takes a lot of hard work day-in and day-out to be a crowd pleaser and maintain such extremely high performance standards,” says Camara. “I really counted on the experience and enthusiasm of our crew which takes great pride in giving a great dining experience to each and every diner.”
“If you haven’t been to Hoku’s lately….you need to come back soon,” says Chef Ho. “We can’t wait to impress you over and over again!”
