Kahala’s Popular Curry Lunch Buffet---It’s baaaaack!
RELEASE DATE: 04/04/2011
Wednesday Curry Buffet returns to Plumeria Beach House March 30; $30 per person
It’s baaaack!  The Curry Buffet has returned for every Wednesday at the Plumeria Beach House in The Kahala Hotel & Resort. For $30 (plus tip and gratuity) per person, you get a delightful all-you-can-eat curry buffet, all the yummy condiments, and great ocean views for lunchtime seaside dining that just can’t be beat.  The Kahala Curry Buffet includes salad, a soup du jour and dessert and is available from 12 – 3 p.m.
If you are a true curry aficionado, you’ll want to try all three of Chef Wayne Hirabayashi’s delicious curries, set to change every few weeks. Currently, the menu features a sweet Thai seafood curry made with green Thai curry paste and fish chili sauce, coconut milk, lime leaves, lemon grass, garlic, shallots, cilantro, red chili, seafood and other goodies. Vegetables include mushrooms, bell pepper, eggplant, and zucchini. This curry is served with Thai sticky rice and green papaya salad, fried shallots, and roasted peanuts.
The Japanese Beef Curry is made with curry powder, garam masala, garlic, onions, and chili and served with steamed Japanese rice and takuwan, pickled ginger, and tsukemono condiments. The beef curry also has kabocha pumpkin, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms, too.
The Indian Chicken Spinach Curry is another curry fan favorite. This is a regional specialty from the state of Punjab in Northern India. Punjab is a very earthy, yet vibrant and colorful part of India featuring vast farmlands and rich agricultural products.  Chunks of broccoli, cauliflower, bell pepper and long beans are served in a savory east Indian-style curry sauce with jasmine peas and cumin rice pilaf. The pilaf is often called “Royal Rice” in India because of the addition of toasted cashews. Often served at parties, the fried cumin seeds give it a smoky flavor. Top it with the cucumber mint raita, mint or mango chutney.
The buffet also includes a salad bar with seasonal Waimanalo greens, classic Caesar salad, fresh fruits and special Chef’s Salad that changes weekly. The dessert bar will offer a variety of sweet temptations such as coconut cake, seasonal tapioca, blondies, brownies, cookies, and a Chef’s special dessert each week.
Curry is comfort food in Hawaii. Served over rice, it’s a spice that blends well with all manner of meats, seafood, and vegetables.  It’s a known fact…everything tastes better in a good curry! To make reservations, call (808) 739-8760 or e-mail restaurants@kahalaresort.com. Plumeria Beach House can accommodate large groups or office parties, too.
