HONOLULU, HI (April 21, 2009) –The Kahala Hotel & Resort welcomes chef Liang Shu Neng from the Okura Hotel Tokyo’s famed Toh-Ka-Lin Restaurant to the Hoku’s kitchen from May 10-16, 5:30 to 10 p.m. Taste of Toh-Ka-Lin at Hoku’s will feature many of the dishes that have made this Okura restaurant the preeminent Chinese restaurant in Japan for decades.
Grand chef Liang Shu Neng is a culinary treasure in Japan. He joined Hotel Okura in 1962 and has been winning awards and accolades ever since, culminating in 2007’s Medal of Honor (Yellow Ribbon) from the Japanese government in recognition of his professional devotion and dedication. Liang was also appointed executive director of Hotel Okura Tokyo in 2005. Toh-Ka-Lin at Hotel Okura, in the heart of downtown Tokyo, has a 200 item menu featuring uniquely delicate Cantonese cuisine based on seasonal ingredients and in generous proportions.
Taste of Toh-Ka-Lin at Hoku’s signature dishes will be available a la carte for dinner from May 10-16. Featured dishes include: marinated scallops and shrimp with Chinese chives, fruit tomato and onion sauce; the popular hot pot; sweet and sour pork with a twist; and even a traditional almond jelly. All Taste of Toh-Ka-Lin dishes are ample enough for two.
The Kahala’s Plumeria Beach House will also showcase Okura Hotel Culinary Classics for lunch, May 11 – 16 (11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.). These Culinary Classics include comfy delights like beef stroganoff and wiener schnitzels, as well as originals like crab meat pilaf, seafood spaghetti Japanese style, and salmon teriyaki and avocado rice bowl.
Three varieties of Okura Hotels’ famous chocolates will be available for sale at Plumeria Beach House and The Kahala Boutique while supplies last. An excellent companion to brandy, the sweet and salty Rock Salt chocolate includes two bars of bitter chocolate and a silver hammer that can be used to break the chocolates into their desired size. The whimsical Silk Chocolate “Love Dream” includes six pieces of chocolates made with silk powder and four chocolate dice with the letters L, O, V, E and Okura Hotels logo. Lovers can roll the dice, and if all four land on the Okura Hotels logo, the couple is destined for marriage. A unique combination of cayenne and cacao, Tasty Chocolate, a popular gift item for Tokyoites, will also be available for sale.
Okura’s Classic specials will also be featured in The Kahala’s Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet on Sunday, May 10 at the Maile Ballroom.
